Gear Up for Fall: Preparing Your Powersports Machines for Thompson Winters
Winterizing Your Powersports Machines
Thompson’s winters are tough on equipment. Before you tuck away your Polaris ATVs, Yamaha snowmobiles, Lund boats, or Mercury outboards for the season, a little preventative maintenance goes a long way. It’s about protecting your investment and ensuring everything’s in top shape when you’re ready to ride again.
ATV & Side-by-Side Winter Prep
- Stabilize Fuel: Add a fuel stabilizer to prevent ethanol-related issues.
- Battery Care: Remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place on a trickle charger.
- Lubricate: Grease all fittings and check fluid levels (oil, coolant, brakes).
- Clean Thoroughly: Wash away mud and grime – Thompson trails can be messy!
Snowmobile Winterization
- Fogging the Engine: This protects internal components from corrosion.
- Coolant Flush: Replace the antifreeze to prevent freezing.
- Lubricate Tracks & Skis: Keep them in good condition for next season.
Boat & Outboard Maintenance
- Drain Water: Thoroughly flush the engine block and cooling system.
- Winterize the Engine: Follow manufacturer’s instructions for winterizing your Mercury outboard.
- Clean & Store: Clean the hull and store the boat on a trailer or in a secure location.
Don’t forget to inspect your FXR riding gear too! Keeping it clean and stored properly will extend its lifespan.
